I have been attending CaAtherine’s Chair Yoga classes for over two years. I had bad mobility issues before starting to work with CaAtherine. I have tried regular yoga but with bad knees found it too difficult. So, when I saw the ad for chair yoga, I thought I’d give it a try. I was made to feel welcome from the first minute. The class was small – which was great. CaAtherine is great at adapting movements to suit your capability or difficulties. At first it was challenging, and I certainly felt I’d done some exercise.

I now look forward to weekly sessions and always feel good afterwards. The class finishes with a short meditation, which sets me off for the rest of the day. As many women of my age feel I had always looked after everyone but hadn’t really looked after me. I’d had back surgery 6 years ago leading to nerve damage to the right side of my body particularly my right foot. I then broke my right knee after a fall. All of the trauma to my body resulted in me being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I also had severe asthma.  I was overweight, constantly sore and tired and generally feeling flat.

I was scrolling through Facebook and saw CaAtherine’s post about chair yoga. It took me a month to walk through her studio door but I’m so glad I did. I now attend two classes a week as well as meditation. I am more supple, have less pain and it’s the first winter I’ve not been sick for many years. I am calmer and have built my confidence again.

How often are classes released into the online studio?

Classes will be released into the studio each Sunday night.

What type of chair should I be using for the chair yoga sessions?

You can use a kitchen or dining chair.  Please do not use an office chair that has wheels.

Our students use backless yoga chairs or black folding chairs.

We recommend you use a chair that:

  • is stable and safe
  • has no wheels or arms
  • allows your feet to touch the ground

 

What is inside the online studio?

Each week you will receive 1 x 30 minute and 1 x 60 minute Chair Yoga session, a 20-30 minute Guided Meditation session, Pose Prompt Cards with detailed instructions to support your practice.

 

How will I know when there are new classes released into the online studio?

Your classes will be released each Sunday night.

When you sign up to online classes, you will be invited to a private Facebook group, in this group we will remind you when the classes are to be released.

I am not flexible or co-ordinated. Should I be doing chair yoga?

Of course! Absolutley!

Firstly Yoga simply means ‘union’ or ‘to yoke’… union between yourself and something greater, union between different aspects of yourself, or union of body, mind, breath and spirit. There are a few ways in which people explore this, however anyone can start to experience aspects of yoga. It has more to do with the internal journey than the external. The most co-ordinated, flexible person in the world could be doing something that looks like yoga, but in reality is not doing yoga at all, just like the most un-coordinated, inflexible person in the world may not be able to touch their toes, but may be practicing yoga beautifully. That inquisitive ‘beginners mind’ is most definitely an asset and even within the realms of movement it can be seen as an opportunity rather than a hinderance.

We use movement, breath and various other techniques to move through the poses so that we feel more connected and energized throughout the week. 

In the classes you will be shown alternative moves to help accommodate your body. There are so many benefits for all people – Chair Yoga is for EVERY body regardless of age, shape, size, or ability.

I have recently recovered from injury or illness. What should I do?

Make sure you have permission from your doctor before participating in classes, as in some cases there may be the potential to aggravate your condition.

In many cases however yoga maybe highly beneficial to your recovery so once you have the Doctors permission please send us a quick email  so that we are aware and can plan some alternative options for anything you may not be able to practise.  You can email us at  

We can give you some advice on where to start and how to make adjustments. Make sure you take things extra slowly and avoid anything which doesn’t feel quite right. 

I have lost much of my previous fitness and physical abilities. Will classes be ok for me?

Yes!  Chair Yoga was created by my Yogi to help a student who could no longer practice mat yoga due to illness.  Chair Yoga classes move at a much slower pace, so we have time to modify each posture and get that basic technique just right.   Remember you do not have to get down on the floor.

Perhaps a private session or one of our mentoring packages might be the perfect bridge where we can teach you some beautiful, simple sequences that can help you re-build strength and mobility.

 

    If I have financial issues can I cancel my membership?
    Will I be able to put my membership on hold if I'm having surgery or I'm on holidays?

    Yes!  We would appreciate 14 days notice.

    You simply need to email us at with the following information:

    • Your name.  Your email address. 
    • The dates you would like your membership put on hold.

    Please note: 30 days is the maximum you can place your membership on hold.  Please email us if you require an extension.
