Eat this, don’t eat this, eat that, don’t eat that. Food we should or shouldn’t be eating seems to be coming up on all the social media pages wherever you look.

Don’t panic, I’m not going to throw the latest diet at you, or demand you cut out coffee or sugar.   As someone who believes in discovering simple ways to improve our gut health.  The correlation between a healthy gut and a healthy lifestyle is significant, with emerging research supporting this.    As we are all unique individuals one size does not fit all.

So, I’m going to give you some simple tips to take away that will help you create a healthy lifestyle that works for you.

  • Eat diverse foods – I’m talking about vegetables, herbs, nuts, and seeds.  These are all considered plant-based foods (even coffee!).
  • Everyday have some fermented foods such as yoghurt, kimchi, kefir, kombucha, or sauerkraut.  Why not create your own!
  • Include beans and lentils which are full of fibre and help keep us feeling fuller for longer.  Technically not vegetables, beans, and lentils (they are part of the legume family) are referred to being vegetables for cookery purposes.
  • High quality extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) each day – make sure it’s REAL olive oil! You can use the oil for cooking or on your salads.  Two tablespoons a day is recommended to help reduce inflammation, reduce blood pressure, and boost your body with antioxidants.
  • The biggest tip I can give you is to include diversity with your foods.  Professor Tim Spector, epidemiologist, medical doctor, researcher, and writer recommends in his work that we strive to eat 30 different plant-based foods each week.

Yes, I said 30 vegetables each week! Don’t forget that coffee counts. To get your started I’ve created a list of over 30 vegetables for your meal planner.  See how many others you can add to the list.
