Many times after I’ve told a person about The Real Healthy HQ services and classes it is so disappointing to hear them say,
“But I think I’m too old for that”.
My reply is always…
“we are NEVER too old.”
Every exercise and movement program can be adapted to suit you. When you adapt exercise to fit within your abilities and capabilities you’ll find that age is truly no hindrance.
Imagine a world where we never doubted our abilities as we age?
- Take up swimming or water aerobics – if you can’t swim, get lessons!
- Dance classes such as Zumba Gold designed for seniors.
- Pilates – either floor or chair based. Or you could try the reformer machines!
- Hiking and walking trails – there are some many walks designed for people with ability issues – get yourself some hiking poles.
- Cycling – either indoor or out in the fresh air. Concerned about balance and pushing up hills? Buy a trike or electric bicycle!
- Join a Community Garden project – better still start one in your own garden with some friends. It will help keep you all stocked with fresh vegetables!
- Learn a musical instrument. Try the drums or bass guitar and start a rock band to shock the grand-kids!
- Explore creative arts such as painting, pottery, or drawing. If you don’t want to do any formal classes get together with some friends and have an art afternoon each month.
- Take up Chair Yoga or Chair Exercise – or Tai Chi.
For the next 7 days, I challenge you to stop responding to people with,
“But I think I’m too old for that”,
and instead say,
“How can we adapt that to suit my abilities?”
By simply changing our language in daily conversation we can quickly elevate our confidence and begin to release the internalised ageism so many of us hold.
Negative perceptions revolving around our age and ability can be so damaging to our self-esteem, to the extent that it can prevent many of us from moving our bodies and prioritising health. After this challenge I hope you all realise you are capable of much more than you think 💖
I’d love you to tag me in your exercise pics – #caatherinesaid #nevertooold
